People use contact lenses either for aesthetic purposes or to correct their vision. Contact lenses come in different colors which also defines one fashion style. For some, using contact lenses is a better option than using graded glasses. Whatever the reason is, our contact lenses requires proper handling. Our eyes are very sensitive and any microorganism that gets into it can cause irritation which leads to itchiness, redness and worst, eye infection and damage.
Here are some tips on how to take care of your contact lenses
Wash Your Hands
Before handling your lenses, make sure that your hands are clean. Use mild soap and water and let it dry before getting in contact with your lenses.
Clean The Lenses With Solution
Using the recommended eye solution will help remove dirt buildup, cosmetics and other debris that affects lens comfort. Clean each lens by rubbing it gently using your fingers. Do not put too much pressure as this can damage the lenses.
After cleaning the lenses with a solution, rinse it thoroughly according to package direction. Never use tap water to rinse your contact lenses.
After cleaning and rinsing, use a clean lens case and fill it with a solution. Always remember to use fresh solution and dispose of the old one. Bacteria can thrive on the old solution so it’s crucial to keep it fresh all the time.
Keep Your Fingernails Short And Clean
Having long nails can scratch your lenses and dirty nails can cause an eye infection. Trim your finger nails regularly and always sanitize your hands.
Wear Eye Protection
If you need to go out in the sun, take with you your most trusted sunglasses. It prevents drying your lenses and also serves as a protection from the UV rays of the sun. Same thing applies when you need to engage in water activities. Use goggles to protect your eyes from foreign body and water current.
